Scholarships
The Carl R. Ice College of Engineering awards college, department and degree program scholarships to new and returning students.
A wide range of Kansas State University scholarship options exists for students demonstrating strong academic excellence, leadership, community service and other criteria. The K-State Office of Student Financial Assistance offers and awards these scholarships for those who qualify.
All scholarships and awards listed below are based on availability of funds.
Incoming first-year students
A first-year student is someone who has not enrolled at another college or university within one year of graduating from high school. To be eligible for full engineering scholarship consideration, students should complete their application for admission and submit by the university's priority application date.
College and degree program scholarships may be awarded to in-state and out-of-state students who have met all application and qualification requirements starting in February of each year. Students not meeting the university's priority application date will be reviewed individually based on availability of funds.
Engineering first-generation-to-college student award
A first-generation college student is defined as someone whose parent(s)/legal guardian(s) has not completed more than two years of education beyond high school nor completed a post-secondary degree. Those meeting the criteria can apply for an engineering first-generation-to-college award after completing 24 hours of coursework toward a K-State engineering degree. See additional eligibility requirements under current student scholarships below.
Total value: $1,000 per semester, renewable for up to eight semesters. It can be received in addition to other university scholarships or awards.
Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Scholarship
The Carl R. Ice College of Engineering is a Kansas State University partner with Project Lead The Way (PLTW) in offering scholarships for first-year students. Any student who has completed relevant coursework within the PLTW curriculum at a certified PLTW high school may apply. This is a one-time scholarship in the amount of $500. The college will award a minimum of two of these scholarships annually. The application will be available until March 31, 2021.
U.S. FIRST Robotics Scholarship
The Carl R. Ice College of Engineering is a Kansas State University sponsor of U.S. FIRST Robotics and offers scholarships for first-year students. Any student who has participated in U.S. FIRST Robotics may apply. This is a one-time scholarship in the amount of $1,000. The college will award up to three of these annually. The application will be available until March 31, 2021.
Transfer students
A transfer student is someone who has enrolled at another college or university since graduating from high school. To be eligible for full engineering scholarship consideration, students should complete their application for admission and submit by the university priority date the semester before they begin.
Transfer scholarships, in addition to those listed below, may also be available for transfer students. All transfer students should fill out the Engineering Transfer Scholarship application the semester before they begin to be eligible for additional Carl R. Ice College of Engineering scholarships. These scholarships may be enhanced once final transcripts are received. The application deadline is March 31 for summer/fall 2021 terms.
College and degree program scholarships may be awarded to in-state and out-of-state students who have met all application and qualification requirements. Students not meeting the priority application date the semester before they begin will be reviewed individually based on availability of funds.
Transfer engineering award
Total value: $1,000 (one-time award). It can be received in addition to other university scholarships or awards.
To be eligible, a student must meet the following criteria:
- 3.25 cumulative GPA on final transcripts from a transfer institution(s), based on at least 12 hours of completed and transferable coursework. Credit from high school does not count toward the cumulative GPA.
- Completed the first math class in the calculus sequence of a specific degree program (MATH 205 or MATH 220) with a grade of B or better
- Enrolled as a full-time student (at least 12 hours per semester) in a Carl R. Ice College of Engineering undergraduate degree program
- U.S. citizen/resident
The transfer engineering award may be enhanced up to $2,000 (one-time award) based on —
- Completion of approximately 28 hours of coursework toward degree requirements in a K-State engineering program
- To determine course requirements for each degree program, visit our engineering flowcharts or engineering transfer pathways
- Participation in leadership activities at the student’s prior institution(s)
- Completion of a pre-engineering curriculum at a previous institution(s), if available
Transfer first-generation-to-college student award
Total value: $2,000 (one-time award over two semesters with the possibility of renewal). It can be received in addition to other university scholarships or awards.
To be eligible, a student must meet the following criteria:
- Is a first-generation college student (defined as a student whose parent(s)/legal guardian(s) have not completed more than two years of education beyond high school, nor completed a post-secondary degree)
- Completed the FAFSA for the current year, and have financial need or have completed a financial need statement if not eligible to fill out the FAFSA
- Enrolled as a full-time student (at least 12 hours per semester) in a Carl R. Ice College of Engineering undergraduate degree program
- Completed the first math class in the calculus sequence of a specific degree program (MATH 205 or MATH 220) with a grade of B or better
- 3.00 cumulative GPA from a transfer institution(s) on a minimum of 24 credit hours. Credit from high school does not count toward a GPA or credits
- U.S. citizen/resident
**This scholarship is renewable for up to three additional years (six semesters) for a total of $6,000 ($1,000 per semester) provided a student meets the following:
- 2.70 K-State GPA with progress toward completion of a College of Engineering degree program
- Maintains full-time enrollment (minimum of 12 credit hours per semester — fall/spring) in K-State coursework leading toward degree completion
- Maintains continuous enrollment at K-State for the duration of the scholarship
Military-connected and non-traditional students
An individual review of each application will be conducted for students with a military background or who have a non-traditional background (graduated from high school more than one year ago and have not enrolled at another college/university). To be eligible for full engineering scholarship consideration, students should complete their application for admission and submit by the university priority date the semester before they begin.
College and degree program scholarships may be awarded to in-state and out-of-state students who have met all application requirements during the semester before their first term at K-State. Students not meeting the priority application date the semester before they begin will be reviewed individually based on availability of funds.
Military-connected/non-traditional student engineering award
Total value: $1,000 (one-time award). It can be received in addition to other university scholarships or awards.
To be eligible, a student must meet the following:
- 3.25 cumulative GPA on a final transcript from a transfer institution(s), based on at least 12 hours of completed and transferable coursework. Credit from high school does not count toward the cumulative GPA.
- Completed the first math class in the calculus sequence of a specific degree program (MATH 205 or MATH 220) with a grade of B or better.
- Enrolled as a full-time student (at least 12 hours per semester) in a Carl R. Ice College of Engineering undergraduate degree program.
- U.S. citizen/resident
Engineering first-generation-to-college student award
A first-generation-to-college student is defined as someone whose parent(s)/legal guardian(s) has not completed more than two years of education beyond high school nor completed a post-secondary degree. First-generation college students can apply for this award after completing 24 hours of coursework toward a K-State engineering degree. Current students
All current students should fill out the K-State Scholarship Network application to be eligible for Carl R. Ice College of Engineering scholarships. All college scholarships or awards are based on availability of funds.
First-generation-to-college award
Total value: $2,000 per year up to four years. It can be received in addition to other university scholarships or awards.
To be eligible, a student must meet the following:
- Is a first-generation college student (defined as a student whose parent(s)/legal guardian(s) has not completed more than two years of education beyond high school nor completed a post-secondary degree)
- Completed the FAFSA for the current year and have financial need, or completed a financial need statement if not eligible to fill out the FAFSA
- Enrolled as a full-time student (at least 12 hours per semester) in a Carl R. Ice College of Engineering undergraduate degree program
- Completed at least 24 hours toward a Carl R. Ice College of Engineering degree
- 2.90 cumulative K-State GPA on all graded coursework
- Completed the first math class in the calculus sequence of a specific degree program (MATH 205 or MATH 220) with a grade of C or better
- U.S. citizen/resident
This scholarship is renewable for up to three additional years (six semesters) for a total of $6,000 provided a student meets the following:
- 2.70 K-State GPA with progress toward a College of Engineering degree
- Maintains full-time enrollment (a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester — fall/spring) in K-State coursework leading toward degree completion.
- Maintains continuous enrollment at K-State for the duration of the scholarship
Education Abroad Scholarship
The college strongly advocates international experience for its undergraduate students. A limited number of $500 to $1,000 grants are available for those enrolled in the Carl R. Ice College of Engineering and who plan to participate in a semester-long education abroad program. To learn more about the International Experience Grant, visit the College's Education Abroad page.
Engineering Student Leadership Scholarship
The Carl R. Ice College of Engineering has a limited number of scholarships for undergraduate students actively involved in engineering student leadership. The purpose of this scholarship program is to recognize active leadership in College of Engineering student organizations and/or active involvement on a College of Engineering student design/creative inquiry team, as well as service to the college. Qualification and application information is sent to engineering students in the fall semester.

Samuel Brinton LGBT Engineering Scholarship
Awarded to an undergraduate student who is recognized as a leaders within the LGBT community and promotes diversity and social justice for all people
Human Rights Campaign LGBTQ student scholarship database
The Human Rights campaign provides a list of scholarships, fellowships and grants for LGBTQ and allied students.
National Organization of Gay and Lesbian Scientists and Technical Professionals Inc.
Established the “Out to Innovate” scholarship for LGBTQ+ People in STEM. The scholarships are designed to promote academic excellence and increased visibility of LGBTQ+ students in STEM careers.
K-State Multicultural Engineering Program NACME Block Grant Scholars
The National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering (NACME) awards over $3 million in scholarships annually to underrepresented minority (URM) students. K-State engineering awards 10 scholarships annually from the NACME grant.
K-State Multicultural Engineering Program NACME Associate Scholars
K-State engineering awards 12 scholarships annually in support of the mission of the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering.
Alianza is a faculty and staff organization that advocates the advancement of Hispanics and Latinos at Kansas State University.

National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)
Founded in 1975 NSBE supports and promotes the aspirations of collegiate and pre-collegiate students in engineering and technology. K-State engineering has a NSBE student chapter.
Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE)
Formed in 1974, SHPE is the largest association in the nation for Hispanics in STEM. SHPE’s mission is “to change lives by empowering the Hispanic community to realize its fullest potential and to impact the world through STEM awareness, access, support and development.” K-State engineering has a SHPE student chapter.
American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES)
Founded in 1977, AISES’s mission is ”focused on substantially increasing the representation of American Indians Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, Pacific Islanders, First Nations and other indigenous peoples of North America in STEM Careers. K-State engineering has an AISES student chapter.
